Humanities – the historical collection

The historical collection comprises a broad range of historical datasets, which relate to the Netherlands and the former Dutch colonies, or which are created by Dutch historians. As regards the period of time, the datasets range from ancient to contemporary history. Nearly all datasets are based on archival sources. The datasets from this collection relate to the following disciplines: colonial history, trade and shipping, cultural history, historical demography, criminal law (criminal judgements), prosopography, social history and economic history.

Recently, many interviews were added to the collection from the ‘Heritage of the War’ project, consisting of various subcollections, e.g. the Willy Lindwer Holocaust Video Archive, Dutch Veterans Interview project and Witness Stories.

The humanities collection also comprises language and text files, such as digital publications of bibles from the 15th and 16th century, the Hexham Dutch-English dictionary from 1648, Nederlandtsche Woorden-Schat (Dutch Lexicon) from 1650, Tuinman - De oorsprong en uitlegging van dagelyks gebruikte Nederduitsche spreekwoorden (Origin and explanation of daily used Low German proverbs) from 1726-1727 and Sprenger van Eijk, Spreekwoorden (Proverbs), 1844.
