Netherlands Geographic Information System (NLGis)
The Netherlands Geographic Information System (NLGis) offers a website with which historians can visualise regional variation in Netherlands municipal data.
NLGis is therefore a tool that supports the spatial component of historical research. Regional variation in municipal data can be beautifully displayed by means of a geographic information system. This is much more difficult for Netherlands historic municipal data, as the municipal structure was repeatedly changed. In the NLGIS project, work is underway to create a user-friendly web application which does make that display possible. Researchers can upload municipal data from the period 1812-2000, display it and then download the map made with the aid of NLGIS.
