Symposium on idea of the Youth Data Portal in the Netherlands
The 'Verkenning Jeugddata' (Youth Data Exploration), which DANS finalized in 2009, revealed that there is a need for a central location where youth research data can be found. That location, a portal on youth data, should also give information on who did and does what in each survey. DANS is giving the starting signal for a discussion on the feasibility of such a portal by organizing the (restricted access) Symposium Data ‘Nederlands Jeugdonderzoek’ on Wednesday 25 November.
In the Netherlands, more and more youth research takes place. Universities and research institutes are experiencing a large increase in interest in youth and notably in problems to do with growing up and upbringing. A portal would offer advantages during the preparation of someone’s surveys as well the opportunity to establish contacts and avoid duplicating (and wasting money. The success of such a portal will strongly depend on the willingness to provide research data and on good cooperation with researchers and national institutes such as the Netherlands Youth Institute (NJi).
Speakers and guests from the worlds of research, research funding, policy and data services will meet at the symposium in November to exchange thoughts about this.
