Second edition of European Social Survey published
Just before the holiday season, the second edition of the European Social Survey (ESS), round 4, was published. Main difference relative to the first edition of round 4, which was made public in September, is the inclusion of data for Hungary, Israel and the Netherlands.
Round 4 of the ESS comprises varying modules concerning ‘Welfare attitudes in a changing Europe’ and ‘Experiences and Expressions of Ageism’.
The ESS is a bi-annual survey held in thirty European countries. The first round took place in 2002/2003; the last one, for which the report is now ready, in 2008/09. The project is financed by the European Commission, the European Science Foundation and science sponsors in the participating countries.
The questionnaire consists of two components, each of about one hundred and twenty questions. One component remains relatively constant over the years and is therefore suitable for longitudinal research questions. The other component contains revolving modules. The results are available at no cost to not-for-profit organizations.
