Publication and symposium on data from youth surveys

There is a need for a central location for youth research data. This became clear in a study recently carried out by DANS. On Wednesday 25 November, a symposium on that Dutch-language reconnaissance and the feasibility of such a portal - which such a central location would have to be - will be held in The Hague.

The attention for youth and notably for problems to do with growing up, and raising youths has greatly increased at universities and research institutes. DANS therefore had a Reconnaissance Youth Data carried out. According to that reconnaissance, there is a need for a Portal Youth Data, which should also contain information on who did what in this type of research. That will benefit anyone wanting to start new research, and also, contacts can be established, and repetitions (and a waste of money) prevented. To make the Portal a success, researchers have to be willing to provide data and the cooperation between researchers and national institutes such as the Netherlands Youth Institute (NJi) has to be good.

The Data Nederlands Jeugdonderzoek Symposium wants to start the discussion on the feasibility of a Portal Youth Data. What are the yields and what would its ideal setup be? Speakers and invited parties from within the worlds of research, research funding, policy and data services will meet and exchange ideas. More information on the symposium is available (in Dutch) elsewhere on this web site. You will also find times, venue and an e-mail address for more information. This web site’s Publications page contains information about the published study.
