DANS asking for nominations for Data Prize 2010

DANS is requesting nominations for candidates for the DANS Data Prize 2010. The prize will be awarded for the first time this year. It was established as a stimulus for making qualitatively good and durably stored research data available in the social sciences and humanities.

The DANS Data Prize consists of a sculpture and a first-class dinner for the group of researchers in question. It can be awarded to any researcher or research institution in the area of the social sciences and humanities in the Netherlands. Researchers and institutions can submit nominations for the DANS Data Prize to DANS heiko.tjalsma at dans.knaw.nl until 31 March. They can be based on a special data set or on data archiving accomplishments in general.
In the beginning of April, a jury of prominent researchers will announce four nominations, preferably two in the social and behavioral sciences and two in the humanities, from which the winner will be chosen later this year. In May, the jury will get together again and select from the nominees the person or research institution to receive the DANS Data Prize 2010 from KNAW president Robbert Dijkgraaf on 18 June 2010.
The data related to the Prize must have become available in the past three years. They have to meet the requirements of the Data Seal of Approval (www.datasealofapproval.org), be of national or international importance and enable answering of new research questions. The jury will apply a few other criteria in its evaluation; these can be found elsewhere on the DANS web site.
